Waterbom Bali
SUSTAINABILITY MANAGEMENT
Waterbom has worked since its inception to try and minimize its impact on the environment by following sustainable business practices, and over the last 6 years has implemented a comprehensive Sustainability plan across water, waste and energy management to protect Bali’s natural resources.
WATER CONSERVATION
Waterbom Bali actively monitors water resources across the park, using nine recharge wells to fully absorb stormwater and recharge aquifers. Grey water is recycled through a sewage treatment plant for garden irrigation. The park has installed 95% low flow rate taps and water-saving appliances. Additionally, they produced the documentary "Balancing the Waters" to raise awareness about Bali's water issues and encourage sustainable water management in tourism.
ENERGY SAVING
Waterbom Bali has installed solar panels to reduce reliance on grid electricity, switched all lighting to energy-efficient LEDs, restricted office air-conditioning use, and upgraded power infrastructure to minimize energy waste and heat loss.
WASTE MANAGEMENT
Waterbom Bali has implemented park-wide waste separation for recycling and composting, reducing landfill waste to 5%. They have an on-site composting facility, minimized single-use plastic, switched to digital paperwork, and partner with contractors for managing non-organic waste.
EDUCATION & COMMUNITY
Waterbom aims to educate youth and empower leaders in sustainability through our in-house program, ‘Seed of Thought’, a series of free workshops throughout the year with the intention of inspiring, empowering, and supplying local communities, educational institutions, and universities with knowledge on how to take action and contribute to the resolution of Bali's environmental crisis.
STAFF MANAGEMENT
Waterbom established a dedicated and passionate ‘Green Team’ in the company in 2018, who monitor, record and report the energy, water and waste consumption at the park and work with an external Sustainability consultant to assess and update the Sustainability practices regularly. This team is run by our Eco Champion Coordinator who leads by example and implements programs and training for staff in sustainability practices and environmental awareness.
"KARMIC RETURNS" PRACTICES
Waterbom Bali focuses on minimizing landfill waste through effective waste management, reducing their water footprint with efficient water practices, and cutting their carbon footprint through energy management. Their ‘Seed of Thought’ program educates youth about sustainability, and they support local environmental protection programs through CSR. Additionally, they promote staff engagement and awareness via the Green Team, team inductions, and by applying sustainable practices in office areas.
