NATURE'S INFLUENCE: A SINGULAR VISION
Spring Spa Bali’s Nusa Lembongan location is a retreat where nature and wellness come together perfectly. Conceived by founder Ina Bajaj, this oceanfront spa was designed to do more than offer luxurious treatments; it was envisioned as a space where guests could experience the essence of island. Every element of the spa, from its architecture to its treatment offerings, reflects a deep respect for the surrounding environment.
The space’s design is intentionally minimalist, allowing the natural beauty of Nusa Lembongan to take center stage. Guests are greeted by the calming sounds of the ocean, the scent of tropical blooms, and the gentle sway of palm trees, all contributing to a serene atmosphere that feels worlds away from the stresses of everyday life.
Andy Grant, CEO of Spring Spa Bali, played a pivotal role in bringing this vision to life. With eight years of experience living in Bali, Andy understands the delicate balance required to create a space that is both luxurious and environmentally conscious. "Our goal was to build a sanctuary that doesn't just exist within nature but is an extension of it," says Andy. "Every detail, from the recycled teak wood we used in construction to the locally sourced ingredients in our treatments, reflects our commitment to sustainability and our deep connection to this beautiful island."
SUSTAINABILITY AT THE CORE OF DESIGN
As mentioned by Andy, one of the key elements that sets Spring Spa apart is its use of 100% recycled teak for its floors, walls, and windows. This choice contributes to reducing the demand for new timber and minimizing its environmental impact. The use of recycled materials and locally sourced elements, such as stones for the bathroom floors, is just one of the many ways Spring Spa has integrated eco-friendly practices into its operations.
Additionally, significant investment has been made in a reverse osmosis system to ensure water conservation and self-sufficiency. By drawing seawater and filtering it through an extensive process, Spring Spa produces its own drinkable water and uses it throughout the spa, including for treatments, showers, and gardens. This approach not only reduces reliance on the island's limited water resources but also eliminates the need for single-use plastic bottles.
CONSCIOUS WELLNESS PRACTICES
A significant portion of the ingredients used in the spa’s treatments are grown on-site, including aloe vera, papaya, moringa, and lemongrass. This approach ensures that treatments are not only fresh and natural but also minimize the spa’s ecological footprint. Additionally, all waste from these ingredients is composted and used to nourish the spa’s gardens, creating a circular loop that benefits both the environment and the wellness experience.
The spa’s commitment to reducing plastic waste is evident in the use of stone dispensers for skincare products in treatment rooms, all of which are filled with locally sourced products. By partnering with brands like Kodage Paris and Davines, Spring Spa ensures that even the products they don't produce themselves are aligned with their low-impact values. Kodage Paris, for example, uses over 90% natural ingredients in its formulations, with a significant portion being eco-certified.
EDUCATING & EMPOWERING GUESTS
Spring Spa Bali differentiates itself by not only offering best practices but also by involving guests in its mission. The spa plans to launch workshops and sessions that educate guests about sustainable wellness practices and the latest eco-friendly innovations. Additionally, a membership program is in the works that will reward guests for engaging in sustainable behaviors.
SHAPING TOMORROW WITH AN ENVIRONMENTAL FOCUS
Looking to the future, Spring Spa is dedicated to supporting the preservation of Bali’s unique culture and heritage amidst the island’s rapid development. Andy emphasizes the crucial role businesses play in this endeavor by embedding sustainable practices into their operations. As development progresses, Spring Spa is committed to leading by example, fostering a collective awareness and collaboration among local enterprises.
In addition to these efforts, Spring Spa is excited to introduce a new spa training school designed to educate the younger generation about sustainable wellness practices. “We’re really excited about the future,” Andy shares. “Our training school will provide young Balinese with the skills and knowledge to excel in the wellness industry while prioritizing environmental responsibility.” This initiative aims to ensure that the next generation of spa professionals carries forward the mission of integrating sustainability with luxury.
