Burgreens is the biggest healthy plant-based chain restaurant in Indonesia with 15 restaurant outlets in Jakarta, Tangerang, Bandung and now Bali. Founded in 2013, Burgreens created a concept of “Plant-based paradise” where customers can find various options from Asian delights, Western meals to vegan bubble drinks and non-dairy lattes.
Burgreens has partnered with more than 600 Indonesian farmers and sources most of the ingredients used in its restaurants directly from small to mid-sized farmers and food artisans who apply sustainable farming and food production at fair-trade prices. As its latest innovation, Burgreens has expanded to other brands: Green Rebel Foods, Max’s Pizza and GreenKind. All of which are 100% plant-based.
"All of our menu is plant based for your better health, animal welfare, and environmental sustainability."
"We use sustainably sourced coconut oil for our salad dressings and cooking, as coconut oil is the safest oil to be heated (highest temperature resistance and smoke point)."
“We pride ourselves in being transparent to our beloved customers. What you see on our ingredient list is what you eat. Healthy food should be tasty! It’s the main principle at Burgreens Kitchen. More than 50% of the ingredients used are sourced directly from smallholders, mid-sized farmers, and food artisans who apply sustainable farming and food production at fair-trade prices. The farmers and food artisans we work with are more than just our suppliers – they are also family.”
“We’re always aiming for as little waste as possible, be it organic waste from the kitchen or inorganic waste from takeaway orders. Vegetable and fruit cuts are done in certain ways so that little of them are thrown away, and those of unique shapes are pre-selected to be used for smoothies. Other than that, our outlets are currently using compostable cutleries, reusable plastic cups and bags. We’re also transitioning to using compostable food containers, such as one from Plepah that are made out of areca palm as well as reusable silicone food containers and stainless-steel cups for meal plan and event catering orders. We are yet to be fully single-use plastic as we still need it for takeaway hot liquid items like soups and drinks. In reducing their usage, customers are given a 10% discount when they bring their own containers for takeaway orders.”
“Sustainability is beyond eco-living practices. When women earn money, they are more likely to spend it on children’s education that will directly contribute to poverty alleviation and position them as equal providers for the family. We make sure women are represented well within Burgreens family by having a 50%-50% gender balance policy, as well as intentionally hiring and grooming underprivileged women in our production and operation teams.”
“We work closely with NGOs and communities to organize fun educational events on healthy and sustainable diets from movie screenings, farmer markets, panel discussions, to cooking workshops.”
